Description
The project’s full title is:
MicroGuard System: 3D Concept Model
Examining Security via Intimidation
Summary
The system is designed and modeled fully from scratch. No models were imported aside from the standard M-size screws available in SolidWorks.
This original idea motivating this robot, is to install it as a prop, that would track movement, and visually “guard” a perimeter. It doesn’t have the ability to shoot. By moving, rotating, and responding to any hostile movement, it would give the illusion of security, thereby intimidating offenders.
I am a big proponent of the following maxim,
“The greatest victory is that which requires no battle.”
—Sun Tzu, The Art of War
Inspiration
The design is largely inspired from a wide range of Gatling-style systems and rotary cannons. The two biggest inspirations for this design were the M61 Vulcan and the M134 Minigun.
In fact, the smaller gun dimensions on the MicroGuard motivate the dubbing of “Micro-”. The entire system fits in a $\mathtt{380.00 \times 425.62 \times 535.00 \; mm^3}$ box. So, in effect, it’s around the size of a mini-fridge.
Animations
Here are three animations: (1) Move, (2) Rotate, (3) Explode.
